Brokerage

An amount (usually expressed as a percentage) that is paid to a broker or agent, by an insurer or reinsurer, as part of their acquisitions costs in underwriting insurance business. The percentage varies widely depending on coverage, the insurer, and the work undertaken by the broker. Also known as commission.
